West Yorkshire Regiment
« on: Wednesday 28 November 07 14:54 GMT (UK) »
I have the attached picture of my relative in uniform, from which I have deduced that he served in the transport section of the West Yorkshire regiment in WW1. I know he was invalided out of the Army, but not the cause; nor do I know any details of his service (though I've heard some stories - but not sure how reliable these are!). I am a relative novice at this, and would appreciate any help.

Hi Hind,

At the risk of throwing a spanner in the works.....  ::)
Is he definitely West Yorkshire Regt?
At first glance, the badge looks to me more like the running fox of the East Riding Yeomanry.

Thank you both, very helpful. I am attaching a picture of the cap badge at the best definition I can. The subject of the picture is Fred Stephenson (or Stevenson), born Hull, 07/05/1896. I'm afraid I don't know his service number - one of my relatives did the only too usual, and binned all papers and photos when he died. I'd be grateful for any further help you (or anyone else) can offer.

Hi again,

I can't find a good pic online of the East Riding Yeomanry badge that I'm thinking of. This is the best I've got:
http://www.arbeia.demon.co.uk/srs/collect/badges/yeomanry/desc_y.htm#

Click on the first example and you should see it.

Ady,
