Adam Gordon, Carlisle

My greatgrandad, Adam Gordon, was born in 1865 - probably near Newcastleton in Dumfriesshire.
He lived most of his life in Carlisle and worked as a representative for a printing firm, possibly Etchells.
I would be grateful to learn more about him.

You can get copies of certificates for his birth on Scotland's People website (pay per view). Other information appears to be English, so freebmd is the place to start plus census returns.  How much of this do you already have and what further assistance are you looking for?
