Lydia Garner, Ashbury 1871
« on: Friday 30 November 07 15:15 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone out there shed any light on the marriage of Lydia Garner to Sydney Bowkett sometime between 1871 and 1881? In 1871 Lydia, aged 15 is living with her father Joseph who is Grocer & Postmaster at Ashbury, Berks. RG10/1257Folio 70 Page 5. By 1881 she is "married" to Sidney Bowkett who is aged 39 from Ledbury, Hereforshire, RG 11/1277 Folio 50 Page 10, but there is no evidence of the marriage on Free BMD, or in the GRO BMDs. Does anyone have access to Ashbury PR, or any other ideas?
Lydia's marriage was fairly shortlived because Sidney died Dec Q 1883 and she married again to Thomas Walker (the family I am interested in) on Sep 16th 1884, but that was even more shortlived because she died Jun Q 1885.
Any help much appreciated
Regards
Tantan

You are absolutely right, thank you so much for spotting that. Now I have to wonder why they went to Camberwell to marry?? Many thanks again.

Hi Tantan
Lydia was possibly was in service there.
I thought my great grandmother came from Camberwell, as that was where she married, but she actually came from a small village in Huntingdonshire!  Her parents were still there at the time of her marriage.

Hi Barbara
Yes she could well have been in service there - anyhow I guess we shall never know. Thanks for your thoughts. I can't imagine why I didn't find it on Free BMD myself!!
