Maria Burgess - 1861 census
« on: Saturday 01 December 07 08:47 GMT (UK) »

Hello all

I was hoping someone could try and find Maria for me.

She was MARIA LATER born abt 1830/31 Bowden Cheshire

I found her on:
1841 census age 11 Dunham Massey,Bowden,Cheshire
1851 census age 20 Barton-upon-Irwell,Lancashire

I found her marrying Robert Burgess 1852  Reg Salford

Now I can't see her on 1861 census, or any for that matter  :(

Can anyone find her on a later census for me please?

Thanks wozzle,

No I'm not sure if she was alive in 1861.
Can you tell me if I would have to purchase certificates for both
of these deaths to confirm parents names or are they able to be looked up somewhere.

Marias father was Thomas and mother was Martha Clarke.

Thanks for your advice

You'll need a death certificate to prove her death.  Have you found Robert Burgess on the 1861 census?  There is a marriage in Salford of a Robert Burgess in 1860, which could be a hint that Maria had died, but not proof.

What proof do you have that she married Robert Burgess and not the other man listed under the same reference?

Hello Lizzie and thank you for responding.

The only proof I have, at this stage, that Maria married Robert Burgess and not William Barlow, is
when I checked the Lancashire BDM site.   They had them listed as Maria and Robert and
Jane Chapman was with William Barlow.  I also followed the Barlows through to the 1861 census
just to satisfy my curiosity.

I might get the marriage certificate  just to try and get some more information  to confirm.
