ROSSI - the Quack Doctor?? COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 01 December 07 08:53 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for info about the father of John Charles Felix Rossi RA (usually just known as Charles Rossi).  I have some info :  He was Italian, born (probably) in Sienna, but was living and "practising" in Nottingham in 1762 when Charles was born on the 8th March.  In one of the obituaries of his son Charles, the father is  said to be "......a sort of quack-doctor to the neighbourhood". In other obituaries he is simply said to be an Italian Doctor or physician..... or ".....practised as a medical man, although he was not a licensed practitioner". - (The mind boggles :D).....

I have a vague idea his first name might have been Robert(o) - but as I can't find where I got this from, I might have dreamt it............. :-[

Many thanks for any help or info anyone can let me have.

Hello Wizz

Well, you never know!  - (Although I have to admit I'd never heard of him :-[)  There was also a singer, very popular in France, whose name was Tino Rossi - on the radio lots at the moment singing "Petit Papa Noël" ::)......

I found a Doctor Rossi in google books, about the right period, who treated a patient suffering from "melancholy" with red hot irons - apparently he snapped out of it, and started talking in a "feeble voice"...... wonder why???

Many thanks for the reply :)

Tilly

Find enclosed pics of "THE DOCTOR",Valentino "ROSSI".Born in Italy, now living in England.
The larger pic,if you notice has the words "The Doctor"on the back of his leathers, why would he have this as a nickname.?
l am still trying to find any info on the "DOCTOR"you are looking for.

                                           Regards  Wizz

Now - if he didn't have his helmet on I might have been able to see THE NOSE - which could be seen as proof either way! I am trying to attach a picture of J C F Rossi (the son) - so you can see what I mean...............

Many thanks for your help
