Question to moderators
« on: Saturday 01 January 05 12:02 GMT (UK) »
I've just downloaded the Netcraft toolbar, a programme which brings up information on every website you visit - when the site came into existence and where the IP is based.  And I'm surprised to find that Rootschat is based in America.  Is this an American venture?
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

I know the answer is NO.

But don't know the technical reason you are seeing what you seeing - Trystan I'm sure will fill us in.  I think it is because the data etc is held on a server in america.

Cheers,
Pam

This is the info.  I suspect you're right about just using an American server.  I hope so, anyway.

Yes, two of our four servers are in a datacentre in the US (Another server is in Germany, then another is in Canada) in order so that we can meet best performance for price, but you can rest assured that we administer RootsChat from (and live in) Bury, Lancashire - the home of the "Black Pudding" and the "World Famous Bury Market" (that nobody's heard of), and the home of the late Robert Peel who founded the Police Service for whom we owe also the term "Bobbies".

So no, it's not an American venture , but yet another British hairbrained idea, I'm afraid.

Our moderators, too are spread as far as Marmite.

Trystan
