The Vly be on the Turnip
« on: Sunday 02 December 07 09:10 GMT (UK) »
G 'Day,

Everyone knows about the Irish potato famine but less well known is the Wlitshire Turnip famine (caused by the fly blight?).

I believe that my ancestors left Wilts for Australia in the 1840's because they were farm labourers and food/jobs became scarce thru' this period. There is very little information about this.

Does anyone know more about the turnip blight, or have similar histories of migration?

cheers
