I can see him in 1881 and 1891 (at the Royal Hospital School in Greenwich) .... but not in 1901 - as yet ....

The gap from the 1901 census until Mothers Maiden name was shown in the birth Index (1911/1912) is not going to help I'm afraid, unless you know the area they were in, and can buy some Certs to eliminate some names ...

Dont worry. I'll have a look later, wondered if it was Military .... - I see that the sons in that household are Army and Navy ..... suspect that Mr Baldwin may well be in the Armed Services too.

I wonder if he was mistakenly called Arthur on HMS Tamar in 1901 ?

Be good to see what Violets Birth Cert says about Dad .....

hi

the series is the Royal navy Register of seamens' services ....  includes the Royal marines

I think I saw that Kate's brother William, the corporal, had RM?   ...Royal marines maybe?

I have also spotted this birth :
Gerald m Baldwin
mar q 1916, Stonehouse
mothers maiden name : Goodyear
vol 5b 434

wonder if the middle initial stands for Morrish?

I am sure there had to have been others in between .... There are a few born early 1900 in Stonehouse ...one had the name Albert....

I think that Arthur on the HMS Tamar seems likely as you cannot spot him in previous censuses...  :)
