Venice wedding WWII

my nan was married in Venice in 1945. (how magical!) I have been to the hotel this year where she had her reception, i have her wedding invitation and many photos but not her marriage certificate,

Is it possible for me to find this? It's not imperative to my research but would be nice to complete my notes about her.

The GRO Index to Army Marriages 1881-1955 is on Findmypast. What was her name?

her name was dorothy tompkins and she married william overend in 1945.

Their marriage is in the GRO Army Marriage Index, Army Returns, Italy, 1945, page 1492.

Hi Sara,
You will have to get the certificate from the GRO at Southport. As far as I am aware you have to aply by post, as they do not appear to be available by the on-line service.

I think you can order the certificate online http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

"Marriage certificates (overseas)" is item 6 on the list of certificate types when you get to that page
