What can this be?
« on: Friday 07 December 07 22:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have found an ancestor on the 1901 Scottish census, (on Ancestry so I havent actually seen the census form), and they have transcribed his occupation as Coachman(not-donratie)....any ideas what that could possibly be? or if there is no such thing, what it should have been?
The census was for 7, Winton Place, Tranent, East Lothian if that helps anyone.
Thanks for looking
Cav :)

Could it be "not domestic" This is a common entry in censuses.

hello

The other person in the household Peter Brown lodger is a
Cab Man.
Jas Skeldon Coach man ( not-donratie) must be not domestic.
You can be a coachman domestic solely to one family, or a coachman who services the general public .

Hi

I have seen the entry on Ancestry. I suppose the only real answer is to see the original.
