Where's the best place to find more info re "inmates"?  A distant relative was born there in 1851.

Thanks

this is a good site for workhouse info as it gives whereabouts of records
http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/index.html

but you need to look under Montgomeryshire, not Monmouthshire, and it's the Newtown and Llanidloes Union. The surviving records are in the Powys archives.

Cornwall: Allen, Bevan, Bosisto, Carnpezzack, Donithorn, Huddy, James, Retallack, Russell, Vincent, Yeoman
Cards: Thomas (Llanbadarn Fawr)
Glam: Bowler, Cram, Galloway, James, Thomas, Watkins
Lincs: Coupland, Cram
Mon: Cram, Gwyn, John, Philpot, Smart, Watkins
Pembs: Edwards (St. Dogmael's)
Yorks: Airey, Bowler, Elliott, Hare, Hewitt, Kellett, Kemp, Stephenson, Tebb

Thanks for this - I must have had a rush of blood to the head when I wrote Monmouthshire!!

Looks like I'll have to visit the Powys records office.
