The surname tends to be confined to the Lecale area where it owes its origin to a Francis Lascelles who arrived there in the early eighteenth century. A descendent, Francis Edward Lascelles (1770-1844), became a minister who held positions at several churches in the north of Ireland before leaving to settle in the north east of England. His unmarried cousin, Lucy, lived at Palatine House, Palatine Square, Killough.
