Details on Medal Card help
« on: Saturday 22 December 07 12:55 GMT (UK) »
Having just got my Grandads WW1 death with the help of the kind people on here, I am in need of a bit more help if I may ask.
Having purchased and downloaded his medal card, it would appear that he had two medals that I cannot identify.
If I forward the PDF copy (successfully) would anyone be able to tell which ones they are.
With many thanks, Peter

Hello Peter,

It looks like he was actually awarded three medals. The Star he qualified for by virtue of entering the theatre of war in June 1915. He was also eligible for the Victory and British War Medals.
The stamp on the MIC is poor quality, but you can just make out "Victory" to the left of the medal roll number. The mark below the medal roll number is a ditto line.

This page will explain the different medals and MIC formats:

hiya peter.
its possible that your grandfather had been wounded on a previous occasion,or invalided home with sickness, while serving with the essex regt,on his recovery,he was transferred to the 1/8th liverpool regt.
he wasnt killed in action,he died of wounds at one of the casualty clearing stations at proven, near mendingham.
these were 4 of the casualty clearing stations that operated in that area, at the time of his death.
1/1st wessex CCS
46th CCS
12th CCS
64th CCS

he landed in france on 15-6-15,the only essex battalion serving in france around that date, was the 2nd battalion.
