Am searching for the Simes family. Grandfather was Frank Simes married to Ellen Brown in 1906, I know that his father was called Frank also but have come to a brick wall. Only just had contact with my father Leslie Joseph Simes born 1920+- for the first time in 58 years. Can trace maternal grandmothers side back for many a year but no records of the Simes side as far as I can find. Am rather new to all of this so any help would be appreciated. How cn I search churchyards for death etc. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Yes this is my grandfather by his first marriage. He worked for the Hastings Gazette as a Printer Compositor. I believe his father also was a printer but I do not seem to be able to go back anyfurther than Frank Simes on the Simes side of the family. Do not have a problem with Agnes Goodsell my great grandmother and her side of the family. Wonder if there are any wonderful skeletons lurking in the Simes background. Have tried searching cemetaries but no luck. Thank you so much
Happy Christmas/
Regards Lynn.

Frank the printer in 1901 would appear to be the son of Samuel and Mary Ann according to 1881 census. He is a printer in 1881 and 1891. Samuel was an engine driver at the gasworks.
The marriage certificate from 1906 will confirm Frank's fathers name and occupation, unless you already have this.

If Samuel is Franks dad, then his mother appears to be Mary Ann Bates who Samuel married in Sept qu 1860 Hastings 2b 33 after the death of his first wife Elizabeth Banks who he married in Sept qu 1845 Hastings 7 553 Elizabeth appears to have died in Mar qu 1859 Hastings 2b 17
Found this on IGI
Mary Ann Bates
Samuel Simes marriage
24 July 1860 St Clements Hastings Sussex.

Frank, son of Samuel, an engineer, and Mary Anne Symes, of Gas Cottages, baptised 18.11.1863 at St Mary in the Castle Church.
It appears that a sister Fanny, was baptised on the same day.
Hope this is of some use.

I have progressed a little with the Simes family tree but to tell the truth I am stuck after you have all kindly given me Samuel Simes who indeed is my great grandfather but cannot get any further at the moment. Intend going to Hastings to the cemetary to try and see if I can find any more Simes family in there and see where I go. I really do appreciate all the help you are giving me and I would be most appreciaitve if any one should find anything else on the Simes.y father seems a little reluctant to give me any information and wonder if ther are any skeletons - how exciting!!
