happy new year alison  :)

can see him on the 1851 census
as a visitor to a bryce family with mary bryce(forrester ?)
perhaps is his sister(born same place)
he was a railway labourer born c1818 muiravonside stirling

could you please give some more info about who he married ?
this would help track him down and make sure that we're talking
about the same person

thanks

hi alison

alexander forrester and mary holdam had a son
william forrester born 6th june 1868 slamannan stirlingshire

found this on 1841 census on ancestry

avonside muiravonside stirlingshire

william forrester age 50 tailor
jean grinton age 50
jan forrester age 26
"allenr" forrester age 20
william forrester age 16 labourer

there is also a marriage
william forrester and jean grinton 1st november 1806 falkirk stirling.

it doen't tell you the relationships on the 1841 census and sometimes
the ages were rounded down

nothing on freecen 1841 for stirlingshire(16% done) to check against
but think it's worth keeping in mind

alison

think alexander is in linlithgow west lothian on 1881 census but
only mary(holdam) on 1891 census with son william
alexander forrester died 1889 linlithgow west lothian born c1819
on scotlandspeople , worth having a think about
see if any of this info matches up with what you have

alison

bit confused about last post  ???

but think  :) (some of this is not official records)

mary holdon married adam dickson 8th may 1853
children
adam dickson b. c1855 glasgow city lanarkshire
john dickson b. 20th august 1857 slamannan stirlingshire
mary dickson b. 26th march 1860 slamannan stirlingshire

there's an adam dickson died 1860 slamannan stirlingshire but
can't find birth year for him so don't know if this was father or son
(scotlandspeople)

1861 census hamlet of crossroads slamannan stirlingshire

mary ann holden age 40(?) b. barony glasgow lanarkshire
adam dickson age 6 b. glasgow city lanarkshire
john dickson age 3 b. slamannan stirlingshire
mary dickson age 1 b. slamannan stirlingshire

so looks like son was still alive in 1861 so it could be the fathers death
in 1860

i'm i on the right track ?  :)

Hi Linda,

I am very interested in learning about your Forrester line.  I noticed you have 'Strachan' as a family name on your profile. I also have 'Strachan' in my family too.

Look forward to hearing from you. Alison

Hello Alison,
Sorry for the delay in replying. My GG grandmother was Margaret Forrester and she was born in Kippen, Stirlingshire in 1815. Her father was James Forrester born in 1773, dont know the location but he married Margaret Lockhart.

My Strachan line are from Kincardineshire/Aberdeenshire dating back to 1750.

Best wishes, Linda.
