Identifying Regiment.??
« on: Monday 07 January 08 08:59 GMT (UK) »
Is it possible a reader with knowledge of Regiments could tell from a poor photo-copy of a photo I may never see again, what Reg't this man belonged to?
His name was the same as many others, he lived in Croydon, Surrey & I may have found him in Documents On Line. The medal card I saw reads.. London Reg't.377135-Rifleman Catologue WO327/23.
I have his Wedding photo in with him uniform 1914  but his cap badge is very hard to discern. I've tried enlarging & ended up with a blob. I've checked capbadges on line & can't be sure what it is.  Any takers ? please? I need to be nearly sure before trying to buy his docs. If ok I'll post the piccy.
Most grateful for any assist here.  Wendy M.

The bandolier suggests a mounted unit - the cap badge could be Royal Artlllery.

Hello Wendy,

I assume we are looking for a Henry George Martin.

I'm in agreement with Shaun and Annie that the man in the photo is Royal Artillery. There are numerous MICs for plain Henry Martins, none that I could see for Henry George, but the one below is for Henry G Martin, Gunner, Royal Garrison Artillery, 2126 and 293309.

Good morning all,
Thankyou  heaps Shaun, Annie & Forrester, yes he was Henry George Martin AKA "George". In photo he's wearing knee boots with trouser legs tucked in.  All I know other than that is he had ahand gun which he brought home with him, (didn't everyone?) & my Mother & Aunt received embroidered handkerchief cards while he was'away'. I so appreciate this effort folk as he was a beaut bloke ,we never met but he was the only maternal Uncle I had.

cheers Wendy M.
p.s. how do I avoid a great empty space when an attachment is not accepted Please?
