WW2 medal found in Coventry UPDATE
« on: Monday 07 January 08 21:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I have also put this post in the Warwickshire board. A WW2 APR medal, photo of WW1 soldier, demob certificate and ID card have been found in the Coventry War Memorial Park, they all belonged to a Private Patrick Bennett of the Royal Irish Fusiliers. More details can be found here:

They are trying to trace the owner and as I know people on RC like a good mystery to get their teeth into I thought it maybe of interest and it would be great to trace the people who lost it.

May I suggest that you try:

http://www.ww2talk.com/

there are a lot of very well informed experts on both WW1 & WW2, I'm sure one will come forward. It's also a great site and free to join like RootChat.

If you have his Army Number that would help a great deal.

Hi,

Just an update on this, despite local publicity the owner has still not come forward or been traced.  :( The medal however has now been identified as a local defence force emergency service medal. It has a gaelic inscription and the dates 1939 -1946.

I have posted on the WW2 forum given by ourbill (thanks again) but was wondering if there are any other ideas/suggestions that people may have to try and trace the owners.
Thankyou
Zoe
