I don't have these particular people but I do have Barkers and Forrests.
Feel free to look at my tree and please let me know if we have anyone in common.

Hello beeny,

I had a wee look on Ancestry for your family and think this is them;

Address: 784 Gallowgate St, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
James Forrest, m, head, 21, general labourer, England
Jane ", f, wife, 19, French polisher, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Sarah I ", f, dau., 10 months, -, Glasgow, Lanarkshire

I'm not sure where the Shields comes in from your post, if her father was Barker? Perhaps I'm not reading correctly! I too have a Forrest in my tree but it looks like your branch hails from England.

Hi HUME 24
Thank you for this,,and yes i think its them..your were asking where the sheilds came in..jane's mother is down.as Sarah shields. formerly McKay and previously Barker,,maiden name Irvine.. I wondered why the barker was in the middle.,
thanking you
beeny.

Hi again,

Thanks for your explanation on Sarah. I think that would have confused me if I saw it on a certificate. ;D

This looks like William and Sarah Barker on the 1881 census:

Address: 51 Tylefield St, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
William Barker, m, head, 33, baker, England
Sarah ", f, wife, 22, -, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Mary ", f, dau., 9, scholar, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Jemima ", f, dau., 7, scholar, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Catherine ", f, dau., 4, -, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Janet ", f, dau., 3, -, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Sarah Irvine, f, mother-in-law, 56, retired weaver, Ireland

Looking at the IGI shows that Mary and Jemima were to a first marriage of William's (to Elizabeth McRobert). A free search on ScotlandsPeople shows he married Sarah Irvine in 1880. :)

Hi to you Hume24
Once again thank you for taking your time to get back to me, and so much info, I'll be honest this search I'm doing for my cousin to get her started and she will be thrilled at what you have come up with, I only started with this yesterday, when i got the marr on SP for James Barker and Jane Barker Shields I thought it a bit odd with her fathers name in the middle,am i wrong in thinking that it would be at the end? i myself have not long started with my genealogy so don't really know much (cant you tell)
Can I ask you Hume 24 how do i do a free search on SP.
So thanks again for getting us started with more info to get our teeth into
and also Dave 52.
regards
Beeny.

Just as you would normally begin to search normally, but not pay the credit for the results page and/or image. This can be useful only if you're looking for year and district - if you need the information from the certificate, you'll need to purchase it in the normal way. :)
