I see these are submitted entries, so you will need to check them out.
I cant find any marriage for Jeptha (or anything else) Boyland to Martha Dowden in Devon on FreeBMD around 1850
or a death for Jeptha, or for a Martha Boyland later.
You might like to check full indexes, and it would be worth looking for him on censuses (no trace 1881 of him or Martha).

But I would recommend you try and find actual evidence he even existed before worrying about going back to his parents.

According to IGI he married Martha Mildred Dowden on 25/12/1845 Mongomery Indiana, (member submitted) so maybe you could find a record of that marriage to confirm details, fathers names, ages etc..... if its correct he may not even be on a UK census

This same Jeptha is also born 1822 in Butler, Ohio according to ancestral file on IGI  :-\

(b. 06th September 1822, parents Nicholas Boyland and Phebe Andrews)

Would seem to be better to start your search by checking these US records  :)

Thats strange - the IGI entry that I found said he married Martha Dowden in Stockland Devon in 1850.

there are a number of children listed (Phoebe, Thomas W, Mary E, Charles N, Emma G and Edward S) all said to be christened in stockland Devon

So far I have found NONE of their births on FreeBMD.

So ... I'm beginnig to think that DEvon is not quite right.....

What CatOne has found indicates this too.

Indiana Marriage Records do show a Jeptha Boyland marrying a Martha M Dowden 25 Dec 1845 at Montgomery, Indiana.

The 1850 and 1860 US censuses show that he was Jeptha G. Boyland born in Ohio abt 1822-23, and lived in Crawfordsville, Montgomery, Indiana.

Indiana death records show that Jeptha G. Boyland, a 71 yr old white male, died at Crawfordsville, Montgomery, Indiana on 13 Jan 1894.

Children of Jeptha and Martha in 1850:

Pheba A. 2 b Indiana
Thos W. 4m b Indiana

Children of Jeptha and Martha in 1860:

Phebe J. 12
Thomas W. 10
Mary E. 8
Charles N. 3
Emma J. 1

All born Indiana

Jeptha's wife Martha was born in Kentucky, per both 1850 and 1860 censuses.

Jeptha was a farmer in 1850 and a carpenter in 1860.

I think it rather unlikely they went anywhere near Devon!
