Marriage look-up please
« on: Thursday 10 January 08 22:15 GMT (UK) »
Dear Rootschatters,
I am trying to find the spouse of an Arthur Burnett Flatman who married in 1908 in Newbury ref:2c 608. I haven't been able to find who he married and wondered if anyone could supply this . He later married our grandmother (2nd husband) and we think he didn't declare this first marriage. On his marriage certificate to our Grandmother he is down as a bachelor.Funds are a bit tight at present or we would send for the certificate.
Thanks
Kind Regards

Hi Nooshie,

There are four names on page 608 of volume 2c of the marriage index for October 1908 and based on this, Arthur Burnett FLATMAN could have married either Daisy May NEAL or Lucy Ellen S SLADE.

I had a look at the FreeBMD birth index for FLATMANs born in Newbury after 1908 but I found nothing.  Looking up the surname of the other man on the page (Albert John GORE), I found a series of births for GORE from Newbury including Albert born 1909 and the 3 registered after 1911 (when the mother's maiden name first appeared in the index) have the mother's maiden name as SLADE.

By a process of elimination, I think it's likely that Arthur Burnett FLATMAN married Daisy May NEAL.

Regards,

Al

Thanks for that, we were obviously very surprised when we found this out yesterday. We never knew our step -grandfather had been married before and as we said it says' bachelor ' on his marriage certificate to our grandmother, oh dear!!
Kind Regards
