« on: Friday 11 January 08 20:58 GMT (UK) »
i have recently discovered that my grandmother who was the daughter of an( i think) Irish solider ww1 and an Indian mother, she married an English solider  in ww2 in india and came over to england some time during the above dates with her husband and child. am embarrassed to say know nothing about the history were there many ships coming over at that time? how easy would it be to trace any documents, passenger lists?

You might want to see if you can get the WWII records for the English soldier; you would have to contact the MoD for these. (Might have some info on their movements?)

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=106#2 - some info on inward passenger lists - although I am not sure if they might have traveled on a military ship and if lists were kept for those?

Was she also born in India? You might want to look at http://www.familyrelatives.com/ which has overseas indexes (freely browseable) including army overseas bmds which you might find your family on. If you find them on these indexes you can order certificates from the GRO just as you would other English/Welsh bmd certificates.
