Kearns East Greenock Renfrewshire
« on: Wednesday 16 January 08 21:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, My granduncle Timothy Kearns from Queens County in Ireland, along with his wife Jane (nee Howard, originally from Makerry?? Tyrone N Ireland) are registered in the census of 1901 in East Greenock at I Carthnauld(?) Street, East Greenock, Renfrewshire.  Their household consisted of two sons, Timothy born December 1895 in Queens Co and John born c 1899 in Makerry Tyrone.  They had an older son James born Oct 1894 in Queens Co, but he is not registered in the census of 1901, so I am assuming he may have died in childhood.  I have lost the trail here, but I am hoping someone will fill in the gaps, as I know they lived somewhere in the Glasgow region for quite a while as my elderly aunt remembered letters from there when she was a small child.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Hi there

Not sure this is the son Timothy but on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk there is a DC registered in 1955 of a 59 year old Timothy Kearns aka James Cairns in Townhead Glasgow.  The parents are Timothy Kearns and Jane Kearns ms Stewart both dec'd.  Hmmmmm.......what do you think???

Best wishes
Jean

sounds very like the Timothy I am trying to trace.  This probably sounds very stupid, but what is a DC?  The term is not used in Ireland. thanks for your help

Hi Rosaleen

Didn't mean to speak in riddles for you.  DC is an abbreviated way of saying 'Death Certificate'.  So there is a death record of a Timothy Kearns in Scotland in 1955.  You can purchase a digital image of it from the www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk website.

Best wishes
Jean
