I can't see a baptism for William in Sidbury, but there is one in Salcombe Regis - a couple of miles away - and there is an extracted baptism for Anna Maria Knight 14 July 1782 in Sidbury, parents Jonas and Sarah

Hello again

There are baptisms for 3 children of Charles and Elizabeth on the IGI - Amelia in 1828, Charles in 1830 and William in 1832.

The IGI is the International Genealogical Index, which is a partial transcription of parish registers.  Not every parish is recorded, most cover only some years, some counties are better covered than others.  There are two main types of record - Extracted, which are fairly reliable (although you should still try and see the originals) and Submitted which may have a grain of reliability but in general should be treated with caution; these are posted there by other researchers and are not always taken from origial records.

The IGI is provided by the LDS at  :   www.familysearch.org
It is free to search.

"Independent" on the records mentioned refer to the church - it will have been methodist, baptist or some other non-Church of England establishment.

Let me know how you get on - you can find those of Charles' siblings whose baptisms are on there, as I said, and also his children as mentioned above.

Do you have census access, or would you like me to see if I can find them on census?

Well - if you belong to Genes you will no doubt have already discovered that there are quite a few people looking at Farrant families in Devon - and quite a few around 1800 in the Sidmouth area.

You might find some help through the Devon Family History Society :

Good luck!
