*completed*Mystery...census 1871 & earlier Please?
« on: Monday 21 January 08 23:00 GMT (UK) »
In the 1881...a Mary Blunt circa 1822 says she is from Chelsea, Middlesex
and is a "Sister Of Mercy" (also a "Sister"- Sarah Slater in household)
at 43 North Street , Shrewsbury )

Ref:RG11  Fol:2649 / 110    p:10

Am wondering which family she fits into....so am hoping the earlier censuses will reveal an identity....
Thanks in advance!!!!!
J.J.

;D  Thanks so much for that prompt reply Mum44!!!! and for all those censuses....Wonderful!!!
Now she isn't in my direct line....and someone gave me that 1851 census before as I have a Robert Blunt, born Southwark, who was a chemist....so the plot thickens as they must indeed be cousins...perhaps named after his uncle...or a further ancestor...I've yet to go back further.
...and I'm excited anyway...as I do love to shake other parts of the family tree, especially as so many Blunts are found to be in the sciences....so it is mega interesting. altho the gene pool has become more murky over the years. I am still chuffed that there was so much genius in that era....

Thank you so very kindly for your time & effort...all this information should find me a connection one of these days!

all the very best,
J.J.

:)  ::)   :P  :P Also, forgive my stupidity to not have looked through my files....but I had misunderstood "sister" ...as I had three aunts who were nuns, and so thought one must join as a young woman as they did...I didn't know they could become one so late in life....J.J.

Well, JJ, this is appropos of absolutely nothing, but my mum had a very great friend - they were nurses together during the war (2nd) and Terry used to visit us every week or so.  She was single, and a strong catholic - she became sister tutor at a big hospital in Portsmouth and in her late 50's got cancer.  She became a nun then - took her vows just before she died.

Therefore, I knew you could join any time - and just worked back from Mary in 1881.

So now I see that the son John was also another chemist from my list of chemists...

From FHS IGI -Christened Sept. 14th 1823   Saint Luke, Chelsea, Lndn
Son of Robert & Mary Ann

http://encyclopedia.jrank.org/BLA_BOS/BLUNT_JOHN_HENRY_18231884_.html
John-Henry-Blunt    (1823–1884)
"English divine, was born at Chelsea in 1823, and before going to the university of Durham in 1850 was for some years engaged in business as a manufacturing chemist . He was ordained in 1852 and took his M.A. degree in 1855, publishing in the same year a work on The Atonement ....."

But then if this is that John Henry in 1881...Tetbury Gloucestershire
John H. Blunt  born  1823   Chelsea - Rector Of Beverston
Frances Wife age 64 also born Chelsea
RG11   P 2552   Fol 10   p.1

Then there is this one in 1881 as well!!!  ::) 1881 St Giles Northampton
John Henry Blunt - about 1818...Wilby, Northamptonshire
Chemist & Druggist with wife Jane & children...
RG11   P 1546   Fol 93    p.10

IGI Christened May 2 1819   Wilby, Northampton /  Parents John Elizabeth

if this is another son, then another chemist is explained and the middle
name Gaire is in my line as well!

IGI - Robert Gair Blunt - Birth: Oct. 1 - 1819    Chr : Oct. 15th  1819
Saint Alkmund, Shrewsbury,  parents Henry & Mary Ann

1841 census - there is a young Robert Blunt age 20 (assistant) living with my Great Great Grandfather., Thomas Blunt ( & family) who is a chemist but the 1881 census says that Robert's with his sister Sarah A. born Kent?

BMD Married to Jane Hall Dec. Q. 1842  Epsom v.4  p.101
( there is a bogus submission on IGI for his marriage )

Shrewsbury1851  - druggist living with assistants
Joseph Foster Edward A McCrackin
Epsom Surrey in 1861 with Jane - secretary to Colliery Co.
Chelsea London in 1871 with Jane – analytical chemist

Robert G. Blunt in 1881 -circa 1820 - Church Stretton Shrewsbury Shropshire
widow- Analytical Chemist - lodging
RG11 P 2623  Fol 10   p.12

Marriage in  Wandsworth June Q. 1882
Blunt Robert Gair   v.1d   p.960

Death Dec Q. 1894)
Robert Gair Blunt  age 75
Fulham  vol.1a  p.143

Elizabeth & Emily are on LDS as well...
Emily Sarah Blunt: - Chri: Dec.27 1833 Saint Luke, Chelsea
Elizabeth - Chr:Oct. 07 1825, Saint Luke

and this might be the christening for the initial query Mary Blunt
Sept. 20 1821, Morden, Surrey / Parents: Robert Blunt & Mary Ann

The other chemists in 1881 are

in Derbyshire seems to be brother of above John Henery
Walter B. Blunt born circa 1838 Moulton, Northamptonshire
Chemist & Druggist - with wife Maria
& daughters Annie M.  age 19  and Ellen G. Blunt  age 14
RG11  P 3407  Fol: 1   p. 1

IGI - Walter Buswell Blunt Chr: August 24 1837 Moulton, Northampton
Parents John & Elzabeth

In Liverpool 1881 married but boarding  with a John Sanderson
Thomas Blunt born circa 1829 Moulton, Northamptonshire
Chemist Assistant
RG11  P3620  Fol:14  p. 22

and my Thomas Porter Blunt says b.1850 on census ( should be c.1842*)
Chemist - wife Emily & 8 children
RG11  P 2653  Fol 9  p.12
born circa 1842 Shrewsbury Shropshire to Thomas Blunt & Sarah _______

*Found only "Blunt - boy" listed on the LDS microfische years ago...and seems to be all there is found now that the BMD has completed...so this may well be his birth...

This may have become more occupational interest I suppose, but it probably will help to shake the trees ...and weed out chafe coincidence...J.J.

an even older find is this one n 1713 - John Blunt apothecary Maidstone, Kent
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/mss/online/online-mss-catalogues/cats/ne_1_deeds_part_8.html

I also have lotsof Robert Gair ( Gaire ) information from censuses when I had ancestry for 2 days...and from many helpers here on rootschat . I just went to post it and it all went blank...so I'll post it tomorrow, just so that someone doesn't duplicate it...
