Dorchester Dorset - 1841 census
« on: Monday 28 January 08 15:19 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone tell me if the 1841 census for Dorchester in Dorset is available online please? Or even if it still exists?
I've checked in Ancestry.co.uk, but it would seem that the only one available is for the Fordington area of the town.
I'm searching for George Brown b1794 or John Brown b1801, both born in Dorchester. They are both recorded in the 1851 census.
Many thanks

Hi Mudlark,

www.dorset-opc.com has 1841 census for Dorchester Gaol and the Union Workhouse.

Not sure you'd want to find them in either of those places!

Hi Jan,
The Moderator has moved this request and in doing so has reminded me to let you know that I eventually found John Brown in the Dorchester 1841 census (and George).
The census WAS recorded for the town (I found another Brown recorded) - so did the "enumerators walk" along the streets and  found John Brown and family this way.

Pleased to find they were not in Gaol or the Workhouse!!
All the best and thanks for helping.

Hi Chris,

Pleased to hear you found your "lost" Browns and not in the workhouse or gaol!
