Quintin McIntosh and family
« on: Thursday 31 January 08 23:09 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking information on Quintin McIntosh and Deborah nee. Davidson.  They had 9 children - Quintin, William, Agnes, Jean (these 4 may have been from a previous marriage) and James, Janet, Isabella, Deborah and Elizabeth b. circa 1835-1845.  Any help appreciated.

There was a
Quinton McINTOSH 51 Gas Maker, Glasgow
lodging at 48 Crawford St, Greenock, Glasgow in 1851, no family around.

Meanwhile, somewhere near Edinburgh ...

High St, Duddingston, Midlothian
Deborah McINTOSH 45 Gas manager's wife
Quenton 15 (stepson) Greenock
Deborah (dau) 11 Cumberland
Janet (dau) 8 Cumberland
Eliza (dau) 6 Cumberland

First marriage may have been 15 May 1823 to Ann CAMPBELL at Glasgow

IGI has these kids with mother Ann, father Quinton
ELIZABETH MC INTOSH  Christening: 15 FEB 1835 Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland
JEAN MC INTOSH  Christening: 11 MAR 1832 Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland
AGNES BONE MC INTOSH Christening: 18 APR 1830 Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland

1861
Reigate, Surrey
Quinton McINTOSH 49 Gas Maker, Scotland
Deborah 46 Cumb Longtown
Deborah 21 Dressmaker, Brampton
Janet 19 Brampton
Elizabeth 16 Brampton

1871
St Neots, Hunts
Quinton McINTOSH (wid) 69 Gas maker, Thurso Caithness Scotland
Agnes (dau) 39 House Keeper, Greenock Renfrewshire Scotland
Agnes (gr dau) 12 Carlisle

Deaths Mar 1867
Mackintosh    Deborah    56    St. Neots    3b   203

Seeing that Quint's first son was possibly William, perhaps he (Quint) was the son of William McINTOSH and Christian SUTHERLAND who were producing babies in Thurso in the early 1800s (IGI batch C110415) ... or perhaps not ;)

That's absolutely brilliant to have the detail especially of 1851 census which confirms what I had thought that he was married twice.  Thanks so much
Cheers

Unfortunately I can't find a marriage for Deborah and Quinton.  Deborah's maiden name was Davidson - and she was born in Brampton area but no idea of a marriage yet

This is just a "guesswork" submitted IGI entry isn't it, based on the birthplaces of the later children.  In the absence of any other "hard" evidence, I'd be inclined to believe her birthplace was in the vicinity of Longtown, as stated in the 1861 census.

Interestingly, http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk has only one Quin* McINTOSH baptism - this was in 1824 - the year after Quin's 1st marriage, so perhaps an earlier child who died.

It only finds one marriage, the one that took place in 1823.

I have one of the children's birth certificates which provides her surname of Davidson.  I have found Davidsons in the area that seem to match up too.  Just nothing on a marriage.
