Stevenson/Stanhouse of Fife (1)
« on: Saturday 02 February 08 23:22 GMT (UK) »

Hello All,

I now want to turn to another group of families who lived in the Fife area of Scotland and form part of my Family Tree. Several people, over a period of time, have contacted me via private e-mail enquiring about them, and I assured them that I would do a posting showing how they connected with other families that I have covered. I am delighted to see that the work that I'm doing has assisted so many people.

James Stevenson married Margaret Stanhouse who had been christened on the 25th October, 1691 at Inverkeithing on the Firth of Forth, and not all that far from the Royal Burgh of Dunfermline. The date of their marriage was the 8th June, 1711 and it took place at Dunfermline.
The following year, on the 20th April, 1712, their first child, James Stevenson was born.
I believe that their second son, John Stevenson was born in 1713, but I have no details of the birth.
On the 30th December, 1714, their third son, William Stevenson, was born.
Margaret Stevenson was born on 13th May, 1717.
Bessie Stevenson was born on 14th June, 1720.

Digging into my Family Tree, I see that William Stevenson who had been born in December, 1714 married a Janet Burt in Dunfermline. Although I do not have the actual date of their marriage, it would, in all probability have been before the end of 1737.

Because of lack of space, I will continue on my next posting.

Kind regards,

Tom.

Hello again,

The grand-children of James Stevenson and Margaret Stanhouse were presented to them by William Stevenson and Janet Burt. They were:

Andrew Stevenson born on the 22nd December, 1737 at Dunfermline, Fife.

Janet Stevenson born on the 7th July, 1740 at Dunfermline, Fife.

William Stevenson born on the 23rd January, 1742 at Dunfermline, Fife.

Robert Stevenson born on the 15th March, 1743 at Dunfermline, Fife.

It would appear that the first Janet Stevenson who had been born in July, 1740, had died, becuse  another Janet Stevenson was born on the 24th April, 1749 at Dunfermline. It is this later Janet Stevenson that I will be dealing with in my next posting.

Kind regards,

Tom.

Hello All,

Janet Stevenson who had been born to William Stevenson and Janet Burt in April, 1749 married John Wilkie on 13th October, 1769 when she was 20 years of age. The marriage took place at Dalgety, just a short distance away from the Royal Burgh of Dunfermline.

They had the following children:

James Wilkie born on 23rd September, 1773 at Dalgety, Fife
christened on 27th September, 1773 at Dalgety, Fife.

William Wilkie born on 2nd December, 1775 at Dalgety, Fife.
christened on 24th December, 1775 at Dalgety, Fife.

John Wilkie born on 20th April, 1779 at Dalgety, Fife
christened on 4th May, 1779 at Dalgety, Fife.

Margaret Wilkie, born on the 4th June, 1780 at Dalgety, Fife
christened on 20th June, 1780 at Dalgety, Fife.

Isabel Ann Wilkie, born on 27th March, 1782 at Dalgety, Fife.

David Wilkie, born 15th June, 1786 at Dalgety, Fife
christened 18th June, 1786 at Dalgety, Fife.

Robert Wilkie, born 15th June, 1786 at Dalgety, Fife
christened 18th June, 1786 at Dalgety, Fife.

Margret Wilkie, born 27th January, 1793 at Dalgety, Fife.
christened 3rd February, 1793 at Dalgety, Fife.

And so I come to the end of Stevenson line with the marriage of Janet Stevenson to John Wilkie. I am delighted that I have been able to supply other researchers with some details of this family from Fife and would hope that you will now share some of your information with other people on RootsChat.

Kind regards,

Tom.
