Baldock/Gambrill family of Lenham
« on: Sunday 03 February 08 16:14 GMT (UK) »
Percival William Baldock was born at Lenham in 1907, the son of Charles William Baldock (a Domestic Groom) and Annie Gambrill.

The death in 1918 of a 30 yr old Charles William Baldock is recorded on the Lenham War Memorial.  His wife's name is given as Annie and his birth place is given as Otterden near Lenham, although I'm not sure whether this is the same Charles William.

If anyone knows anything about Percival's parents I would be grateful for  information about them.

There's a Charles William Baldock on the CWGC site.
Husband of Annie Baldock of 18 Chilton Avenue, Sittingbourne.
He was a Private in the Royal Munster Fusiliers & died 22/03/1918 age 38

Newfster - this is exactly the sort of info I was hoping for - anything else that can be found will be much appreciated.

Bettyofkent - the transcription that I had from the war memorial showed Charles William to be aged 30 in 1918 but if this was a mistake and he was actually aged 38 then it would seem very likely that he is Percival's father.

The CWGC has the right name for his wife, & she's living in the right area, could just be coincidence, but I don't think so.

Here's young Percival's Baptism in Lenham:
15th April 1907  Percival William  son of Charles William & Annie Baldock.
Under Notes it says: Old Shelve, Lenham. (Groom)

They had two other children baptised.
