Help please brick wall just gets higher
« on: Monday 04 February 08 22:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have had this brickwall ever since I started my tree.

John Wright (Age 21???)  marries Bertha Harris in 1914 (Berthas age correct at 21) in Gorton, Manchester  he says his father is Samuel Wright - Hawker.  I have never been able to find him or his father.

There was a family funeral last week and new information has come to light, but I still cannot find anything.

John had two brothers Nicholas and Isaac and two sisters Harriet and Emily.  Known they were living in Openshaw, Manchester, Lancashire area when they were young. Not known who was the eldest.

Emily married William Brookes  1919 registered at Chorlton.  Its no use me getting her marriage certificate as it will just say father Samuel Wright.

Can anyone help me find them on the 1901???

Witnesses on Johns marriage cert are John Thomas Rowbottom and Elizabeth Rowbottom.  John Thomas married Elizabeth A Hampson, who was born 1885 Openshaw, Manchester and is shown in Openshaw on 1901 census.  So I know they were in that area.

Thanks
Joan

I have searched both the 1891 and 1901 under each of the children's names and using father as Samuel - all counties

None came up with more than one of the children in the family (eg) Isaac Wright but no siblings called Nicholas, Harriet, Emily or John

That was the same with each name searched

Even if his siblings were younger than him - at least one should show up on the 1901

Hi Ken

Certainly might try one or two of those.  Thanks for all your time and trouble tracing these.

I've managed to get in contact with my ex-husbands, 2nd cousin once removed (phew)

She has been sorting her late grandmothers papers out and is also curious about her tree, so we are putting our heads together.

to be continued.......................  ;D

Hmmmmmmm  Odd,

Even if its not the Samuel Wright and Harriet Hill.  :-\

Why can't I find them on the 1901 census either???  Maybe it is the right one and the reason is its missing.

I have seen on other posts that parts of the Manchester census are missing due to flooding I think but sorry I cannot remember whether it's the 1901.  I'm sure someone will be able to tell you.

I looked earlier too and couldn't find any likely ones either  :(

Only parts of the 1851 for Manchester were water damaged during storage
