Hi Kathleen...maybe about 1900-1905 or so for a date...after the leg-of-mutton sleeving anyway. Wish I could see the hairstyles a bit clearer. I'll be watching for a restore, but the photo doesn't look to me like it has much definition. We'll see what the magicians come up with

Hi,

As you can probably tell, I'm going through old boxes today.

Strangely, I found another of the same picture.  Both seem to be originals as they are both on cardboard.  I'll post the second one here which may be clearer.

Have you noticed how "touchy-feely" they all are... a nice close family that are very relaxed about being in close proximity to each other. Much nicer than most of the starchy Victorian poses.

Hi again Kathleen...yes, it's quite a bit clearer, isn't it.

The woman behind the little boy has a leg-of-mutton sleeve on her dress by the looks of it. All of them have hairstyles that look, to me at least, more like the 1890s than the 1900s when the pompadour style came in. So...maybe closer to 1899, 1900, 1901 or so...I'm pretty sure the waistline of the light-coloured dress is more 1900s than 1890s, so split the difference and call it a 1900 photo. Ish

You may get other opinions.

The girl on the right is wearing a very similar dress to the light one. She has a bit of a different look to her face...is she English?

Yes, this looks like a pleasant family, not so afraid of the camera as many seem to be in old photos.

Thanks for the date ish China.  This will help me with identification of the individuals.  So far as I know, this is a Canadian family with some Irish background.
