Joel William BIDDLE lost after 1839
« on: Wednesday 06 February 08 07:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,

Looking for any information anyone can dig out on a Joel William BIDDLE
born about 1820 Rotherfield Peppard, Oxford, England

I spotted a possible marriage in qtr ending Dec. 1839 Islington
but can't find him on any census at all.

Any suggestions??

Do you think Joel William Biddle might have dropped the Joel and was known as just William.
Because there is a William Biddle in most of the censuses born Henley which is about 4 miles away from Rotherfield Peppard
you say you have a possible marriage for him did he marry an Ann because if he did she is with him on all the censuses.

Hi Tony,

Yeah I was hoping that might be the case.
One of the possibilities could be a Mary not sure guess that could be Mary Ann?

Are you able to post them please.

Thanks how exciting!!!!

I saw on oxford website there was a will mentioning a Mabel Irene BIDDLE with husband Samuel BIDDLE the will belonged to mary Baughen

who is also one of the possibles for marriage to joel william biddle in 1839 Islington.

Maybe it's her mothers will leaving to a granchild?? who knows
I realise Baughen is a very common name so it may mean nothing too LOL!?

Interesting tho. don't you think?!

Ok Wozzle so that Joel you posted could also be him. Am interested to see the one mentioned born Hurley.

the one born hurley interestingly also had a son called george on 1851 census
the same age as the one i posted and the same birthplace
could joel have married elizabeth she then died and he remarried
also the joel in 1841 and the william in 1851 were both stonemasons.

So can you please post the whole entry from 1851 how exciting! had been a brick wall for years!!!

I think you're onto something.

I guess the question is can we only find one possibility in 1851 not a Joel and a William that could fit??
