John Kelly and Mary Trangmar
« on: Friday 07 January 05 23:22 GMT (UK) »
Wonder if anyone could shed any light on the following.

I was doing some research on John and Mary with the intention of ordering their Marriage certificate.

I found the following in IGI
Marriage: 17 OCT 1875 Saint Peter, Brighton, Sussex, England.

So I thought I would just check for the GRO ref on 1837online.

I have checked Q4 1875 and Q1 / Q4 1876 for John Kelly, and also Mary in Q1 1876 and can't find any reference for them.

Really stuck and looking for some advice. Further info on the family is that I think Mary Subsequently dies and John remarries a Sarah sometime between the 1881 census and the 1891 census.

Hi Paul,

I've just found it too on BVRI2 but I can't explain why it isn't in the GRO indexes.

But this is the extra information in the record for you:

John Kelly age 23 m Mary Trangmar age 25 on 17 Oct 1875 St Peter Brighton.
John's father's name - George Kelly
Mary's father's name - William Trangmar
FHL film 1067137

Hope it helps.  :)

Thanks everyone for your help.  I never even thought of trying for Kelley.

I have found a John Kelley now in the 1871 census.  It's a bit odd as it looks as if he is staying two doors down from an Anne Kelley ( Who is old enough to be his mother ).  I kind of think they may be the same family.

Excuse my ignorance but what is BVRI2?

I wonder if you could have a look for a George Kelley, in BVRI2, getting married to possibly the above Anne Kelley in say 1850.  I have tried IGI and found nothing.  FreeBMD have nothing as well, but this doesn't surprise me as FreeBMD is missing lots of entries around 1850.

Hi Paul,

Had a look for George Kelly marrying an Ann(e) but no joy. :( No joy on any other wife either in that time period.

BVRI2 is the British Isles Vital Records Index 2nd edition, produced on 16 CDs by LDS church available in UK from Church of LDS Distribution Centre,  399 Garretts Green Lane, Garretts Green, Birmingham B33 0UH.  Current price looks like £22.95 but check that to make sure. It contains records like the IGI does but many/most of them are not on the IGI.  Coverage varies but it says that 7.3m of the records (about 70%) have not been published before.  It complements the IGI.

You may have to get John's birth cerificate to find his mother's name.

I think the Sarah connection would be between 1881 and 1891.  The IGI seems to be quite poor post 1880, is the BVRI2 any better ?
