1891 Quebec looking for Woods family
« on: Saturday 09 February 08 19:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi
My Great Grandmother lived in Canada for a few years as a child with her family. She was born in Sept 1887 in Portsea Hampshire England and I know that the family were back in Portsea for the birth of her brother in May 1892. The only clue I have as to which part of Canada they were in it a photo of my Great Grandmother taken by a photographer in Quebec.
Since they dont appear in the 1891 census in England I was wondering if it was possible to find them in the 1891 in Quebec and also if there are any other records that they might show up on.
Just in case anyone is able to do a lookup here they are-
William H Wood 1850 Plymouth Devon
Ada B Woods 1853 Plymouth Devon
Alice A A Woods 1879 Essex
Maude B Woods 1880 Plymouth Devon
Emily E Woods 1884 Portsea Hampshire
Ettie M Woods 1884 Portsea Hampshire
Blanche Woods 1887 Portsea Hampshire

Thanks
SBW

Hi sbw...unfortunately the 1891 census is only available on microfilm from the IGI people or Archives Canada to your local library, and so far is not indexed, although they are working on it. So even if you order the film, you still have to know where they lived to get the right one :P

A lot of us are waiting for the 1891.

Cheers, sort of,

Thanks China
At least I now know that its not possible to find them yet, I wanted to see what the father of the familys occupation was as I think he was working on a ship in 1881 and was running a pub in 1901! I will just have to be patient like everyone else :)

When you say "Quebec", do you mean Quebec the province or Quebec the city??

I only knew that they had gone to Canada, the reason I think it was Quebec is the photo of the little girl (my G Grandmother) that is over on photo restoration, thanks to Old Rowleys information I now know the photographer was in Quebec city. I dont suppose my family would have travelled far to a photographer so I think they would have been in Quebec city or the surrounding area.
