Boston 1841 - Kitwood
« on: Sunday 10 February 08 09:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi please could someone take a look for me, cos I can't find this family,  and I would have though at least some of them should be there.

I am looking for Peter Kitwood born 1787 Norfolk,  his wife Ann born abt 1794 Cambridgeshire and any of their children Susannah 1815 Boston, Hester born 1817 (she may have married in 1839,  but I don't know who to), Peter born 1818, Isaac born 1822, Ann born 1825, Thomas born 1828, Mary born 1830 and James born 1835.  They were a seafaring family and Peter the father was later a harbour master at Boston,  so any of the older males could be away at sea,  but I would have though I should be able to find Ann the mother and some of the girls and little James who would only be 6 years old and I can't see them anywhere.

I think I have found Peter (for some reason given as William) and Ann in 1851,  but all the kids have left home by then.

Can anyone help - please    ???

Thanks Newfster,  but I don't think thats the right Thomas - he was born in 1820 and my fellow was 1828,  in later census they both appear and are different people,  both married a Frances though which is very confusing of them

Interesting - where does it say 1820 ? The 1841 image clearly shows him as a 10 year old - ie c1831.

But as you say, if you can see both chaps in later years !

Strange that theres virtually no Kitwoods around - there was an 80 year old Peter (Independant) in 1841 Boston ...

Perhap's a bit of over-zealous rounding down of the age - I've never seen a 10yo apprentice before.
(Employer was Jeremiah BRIGGS 25 Grocer)

Sorry - you are right - my maths at fault though quite how I took 10 off 41 and made it 20 I don't know  :-[

It could be my Thomas,  but that doesn't explain where mother Ann,  the girls and young James are,  and this isn't the only census members of this family seem to be playing hide and seek on - given it is such an unusual name I had not thought to have so many problems !

Thanks

thanks for the correction Geoff  :P

rounding down wasnt supposed to happen below 15 ....

he could have just been assumed an Ap I guess, as we know, the census is shot full of anomalies

and 'Ap' rules could have as easily meant 'slave'    :P
