Thanks Viv, that might end up helping a lot! I am expecting my cousin's father's birth certificate shortly, and am also making other enquiries which may bear fruit. I'll let you know how I get on.

Hello again, Viv. Just had another look at your posting yesterday. I note that the one family of Evanses was residing at Giles Row in Trefil in 1901; were the other lot there too, or elsewhere in the village? It might mean something to one of my sources!

Thanks again.

Mickytom,

the first lot of Evanses lived at:      "Shop Row, Trevil"
The Enumerator followed the route as shown below, with Shop Row coming where the dots are.

New Houses, Trevil; Shop, Trevil; "..........". Back Row; Crossbrook Cottages; etc.

Hope this helps a bit more.  Anything else, please let me know.

Ooh, sorry! Do we have occupations for the Shop Row Evanses? As Trefil was/is a quarrying village, I'm guessing these may well be "quarrymen" too, but you never know! There might be another clue there!

Thanks once again.

Marvellous! Thanks, Viv.

Going back to the Keziah Jones detailed in the 1901 census as being a domestic servant in Cefyncoedycwmmer, the occupation certainly seems to be ringing bells with my cousin, so this may well be the right one. As she was apparently born in 1882 in Merthyr, don't suppose anyone can find a likely nine-year-old match (hopefully with parents!) in the 1891 census?

Cheers once again, guys.
