RAMSEY/RUMSEY 1786
« on: Monday 11 February 08 15:13 GMT (UK) »
Looking for the parents of a Richard Ramsey b1786? in Kent. Shows up on the 1841 census with a wife Ann and two children as Ramsey, living in Lewisham, but later descendants all seem to spell name as Rumsey. Lots of possibilities in IGI but nothing definite.

TIA

Hi Lesley,

Could be some connection as a lot of people came in from rural areas to work at Woolwich Arsenal in the late 18th, early nineteenth, century then moved on to other places in London.

Problem is tying them up with other sources.

Hi terry, you are probably right, alot of my rumseys were born in woolwich, and stayed there. Are you researching the rumsey's?

My mothers maiden name was Rumsey and I am currently researching that route.

Furthest I can get back is 1786 based on the 1841 census.

Will send you details if of any use.
