Marriage in Germany
« on: Monday 11 February 08 22:37 GMT (UK) »
I have a British subject and a German girl married in Germany (I think)about 1887/8. He was Benjamin Rouse, ,but all I know of her is her first name Caroline.J. ?    Is there any possibility that I can find the record, or perhaps someone here could kindly help. Thanks Dolly.

Hi Jorose, many thanks for replying .

Only guessing mind,  but, Benjamin was a Merchant Tailor, so I'd imagine he went travelling around many countries including Germany.
Probably met & married Caroline over there.

I entered her first name Caroline. J. on the 18881 & 1891 census in Ancestry, but coulden't get a match that gave any clues as to it being one & the same person...  Dolly.

Hmm... might be worth getting the birth certificate of one of their children to see what her maiden name is. Were any of the children also born in German?

Thanks again Jorose.  Your advice would be the ultimate of course, but I shall leave that to the person I am helping out with her roots.  None of the children were born in Germany so that made me think at first that she had been in England a while before meeting Benjamin. I shall go through the 1881 census & BMD again (and that will be another laborious task) before I give up. Much appreciated, Dolly
