William PROUT c 1800
« on: Tuesday 12 February 08 22:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi,all,
I have a William Prout in the 1851 census in Tregargot St Teath age 50, Head, M, Farmer, b Lanteglos, with his family and a  Philipa Chidley, visitor, married. 47. Lab wife.
I know that Philipa was a Prout before marriage. She was the daughter of John Prout c 1773 and Phillipa Davey, c 1774.  She married William (variously Chidley, Chidey, Chudleigh)
Is it possible that someone can tell me the relationship between William Prout and Philipa?  I assume there must be a family connection.
I can find many Prouts from the St Teath area at that time, but I am finding it extremely difficult to tie them together.
I am thinking they may be brother and sister, but am not sure.
Best regards,
Annie.

Hi Annie,

I note Williams age seemed way out in 1851. He is 50 in 1841 HO107/152/14 Folio 7 Page 6 and 69 in 1861 RG9/1516 Folio 125 Page 12 (Still listing birth in Lanteglos in 1861) and still farming at Tregardock St Teath.......therefore:

William PROUT baptised 24 Apr 1791 Lanteglos by Camelford - parents John and Mary

No marriage listed in Lanteglos.

So far the nearest I can spot around the neighbouring parishes is

John PROUT = Mary AUGER 19 Oct 1777 St Tudy

It appears they are not brother and sister.  :'(

John PROUT = Phillippa DAVY sojourner 25 May 1795 St Teath

Hope it helps...........Kris  :D

Hi Orphanannie,

William Prout, tregardock, is my 4 x g grandfather ( we have had contact before ).

Phillippa, is not his sister. ( I haven't worked out the relationship yet, if any and the cousin, who has done a lot of research into the Prout line, had no idea where this Phillippa fitted in ).
William's parents were Johm Prout and Mary Auger.
William had a brother, John, born 1789, Lanteglos by Camelford and John born 1796, St Kew, m Ann May. ( this info., was given to me and I presume, the first John died ).

Strangely enough, I have been working on this line, this week and had a query, with another line, which has thrown up the Prout name once again.  Looking further, into this, the Auger name cropped up and I have contacted, the OPC, for the villages concerned.

I will e mail you, as we have had contact with these Prouts before.

 junket.

Thanks, Junket and Kris.
I have researched lots of the branches of my tree but this particular one is the most difficult.
There seems to be nothing to give clues as to who my Prout family were related to.
Ah, well, back to the drawing board!
Thanks again,
Annie

Hi annnie and Kris,

I have been going through the notes and info I had and done a little searching in the Cornwall IGI.

I need some help please, with this marriage......

John Proute and Cherity Unknown.

I don't have the year or place of marriage.
But they have a daughter, Ann, bapt. St Teath in 1752.
Children i have found so far....

Anne 1752 St Teath
John 1754 Lanteglos by C
Thomasin 1754 St Teath
Thomasin 1756 L by C
Richard 1763 L by C

John ( 1728 ), was the son of Richard  Prout and Tamesin UNKNOWN.

Marriage place and date once again unknown, but John bapt 1728, St Teath.
Children I have found so far are..

John 1728
Katharine 1732

I am wondering Annie, if John Prout, is a cousin of William Prout of Tregardock.  there is activity it seems between St Teath and Lanteglos by C.

Thanks Kris,

Not so happy with the Hicks though.........  ::) lol
The Prouts and Hicks line is causing enough trouble, mixed with the Pooleys and now maybe another Hicks !!! lol lol.

I have St Teath burials, but sadly,  1846 - 1917.

I have just noticed, in St Teath, Baptisms

Thomasin 1750, father William Prout.

William 1752 parents William and Elizabeth Prout.

Now wondering, if William could be first child of John and Thomasin ? ( A Richard Prout calls his son William, in 1765 ).

Thanks Kris.
