Hi Robert

Bromham would later become part of Devizes Registration district (these districts are based on Por Law Unions) as would Potterne.  Bapton comes under Wilton registration district.  They are not contiguous as districts and neither are any of the parishes. :(

Hi Thanks for your help,  my gggrandfather was born c1819, he joined the 61st regiment of foot in 1838 and gave his place of birth as Codford, but on his marriage license ha gives his place of birth as Wylye, but then on 61 census he states his place of birth as Brampton[ l cannot find this place ] on 71 census he gives place of birth as Stockton? and then on 81 census Bapton. His father james was a witness at George`s wedding and he signs his name Naish. l found a george Nash baptised 1818 in Potterne with father named James l was trying to tie in this info with the place names l have.....Sorry l`m going on a bit.

My Thanks for your help

Hi Robert,

If you have a road atlas, you will find Wylye, Baptson, Stockton and Codford St. Peter and Codford St. Mary on a 3 mile stretch of the A36 between Wilton and Warminster on the south-western edge of Salisbury Plain.  I reckon your man is being relatively consistent - he was born within that stretch! ;)
