« on: Monday 18 February 08 23:23 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace my grandfather's family from mohill, Ireland his name was John Hunt he was married to Margaret McGuire in mohill in 1893, moved to  tradeston, Glasgow, Scotland with his sister Bridget Hunt they are listed in the 1901 census. His father was Thomas Hunt and his wife was Margaret Hunt nee woods they had other children William and thomas, James and Elisabeth who all emigrated to Brooklyn New York in America. Elisabeth died in1946 I have correspondence from America dated 1955 stating that Thomas and William were still alive but with no contact details can anyone help and advise how to find them or descendants.

When was he born? I have the Mohill films on permanent loan at the Family History Center that I volunteer at. I've extracted some Hunt info.. because a branch moved to New Haven, CT and one married a Stanford from Mohill..which is one of my lines.

Hi antonine,

Griffith's Primary Valuation of Leitrimn which took place in 1856 lists eighteen people named Hunt.

Two of these were in Mohill ....

Christopher Hunt, Curraun, Mohill. Leitrim
John Hunt, Mohill, Town of Mohill, Main Street, Mohill. Leitrim

Christopher

One of my lines comes from Mohill; a William Hunt that married Margaret Stanford.  Several of their children settled in New Haven.
Are you of the same family?

William...
I cannot connect Margaret to my Stanfords from Mohill.. but I have saved some info on the family that I collected as I researched all Stanford connections in Mohill and New Haven.

Do you have any info on Margaret's parents or siblings that might help me connect her to my lines?
