I am researching a family, and i notice that the Occupation  is down as Alms, anyone know what this Occupation was.

Where is the occupation mentioned, and what year is this?

It could be something to do with being a recipient of alms, i.e. charity - for example living in an almshouse.

Pruem is correct.  The occupation column of the census entry is frequently used to show a persons source of income: independent means, annuitant or in this case alms
