Alice Harpell - Penarth, Glamorgan - COMPLETED
« on: Monday 25 February 08 17:35 GMT (UK) »
Help Please!

I have had a few threads going to help me build a surprise family tree for an elderly aunt. It is nearly finished - but I am stuck on Alice Harpell, who is one of her grandmothers.

I know that :

She was born in Penarth, Glamorgan in 1869 (I have this from the 1891 English census - Class: RG12; Piece: 2032; Folio 64; Page 17; )

I also have her in the 1891 Welsh census - Class: RG13; Piece: 4936; Folio: 116; Page: 30. - staying with her husband's uncle, William Jordan, in Abertillery.

She married Alfred Jordan in Swansea in 1887.

......and that is all!

I would like to be able to add her parents to the tree - I have found an "Allias Harpell" (I don't think this name can be correct - I imagine it should be Alice....) in the 1881 Wales census, born in Penarth - Class: RG11; Piece: 5289; Folio: 34; Page: 64;  - living in 28 Plassey St - the father, Peter, is American. The mother's name is Elizabeth. - could this be her??

I cannot find her any earlier - I would be very grateful if someone could undo this knot for me - Is the Allias Harpell mentioned above "my" Alice............ if not, who are her parents - and where are they all before 1881. ??? ???

Many thanks for any help

Tilly :)

Hi Tilly,

I agree she must be the Allias.

There's a marriage for Peter Harpell in Jun 1863 West Derby. It's indexed as 8b 752 on FreeBMD but I think the actual page is 732 - which unfortunately doesn't show an Elizabeth  :(

 :)

Checking the complete index there is an Elizabeth Pinnington indeed on the same page 8)

There's a Mary Ellen Harpell, "daughter of Peter Harpill" age 4 born Liverpool on the 1871 census for Penarth, visiting a Smith family. RG10/5368 24 41

Hello Tati

I saw your correction! thanks again.

I'm busy filling in all the info on the tree at the moment!

I'd like to find out more about Peter's origins - should I start a new thread? :-\
