Missing family. Did they exist?!
« on: Monday 25 February 08 21:45 GMT (UK) »
James STUTELY born c1800, Stone, Kent
Judith STUTELY born c 1811 place unknown
Children:
Harriet c1830
George c1831
Mary c1834
Ann c1836
Charlotte c1838
Thomas c1840
Places of birth unknown, very likely Kent, possibly in Stone.

I can't find this family in any census.
The name STUTELY is usually dreadfully mistranscribed.
I've been looking for ages, & think I must be missing the obvious!

Could some kind person with fresh eyes please see if there's any trace of this family, anywhere!

Thanks in anticipation,

Betty

Many thanks Jean, that looks like the right Thomas, I haven't got another one of the right age (it's a big family & they liked the name Thomas!)

And many thanks also to bearkat.
So far I've had 22 mistrancriptions of the name Stutely, Standesey is a new one I never would have thought to try!
Although to be fair to Ancestry, it doesn't look the same as the neighbouring Stutely name, so I'll blame the enumerator for this one ;D

Thank you both.

 :) :)

Hi Jean.

Finding Thomas is a great help. I couldn't see any of them on the early censuses, so didn't bother with the later ones.
I had one last try by asking for help on here, before assuming they had emigrated & trying USA & Australia.

The Stutely name is a real pain on Ancestry.
It just shows what fresh minds can do, when you 'can't see for looking!'

Thanks again.

 :)

Betty.......

They are certainly very elusive !!

However, I think I have found the marriage of Charlotte Stuteley

Sept qtr 1854 / Romney Marsh / vol 2a page 995/ Charlotte Stuteley JOHN CREED

They are on the 1861 census at Lydd

RG9 / piece 556 /folio 46 / page 1

Will popst the details, if you have a problem

Kind Regards
