Hannah MASLEN

Hi

I have William Maslen marrying Hannah Maslen at Marden on 1-10-1798.  I am trying to find out firstly if Hannah's name was really Maslen and secondly her parents.

Hope someone can help please.

Do you have a copy of the marriage entry and do you know if Hannah came from Marden?   If not do you know where she was born?   If she was still alive in 1851, a census entry would give an indication of the latter.

I have a copy of the Bishop Transcripts for Marden - this is all it says:

"1798  William Maslen of this Parish and Hannah Maslen of this Parish were married by Banns the first day of October 1798"

I suppose that means she was at least living there at the time.  As far as census goes I don't have access to them.  I did look at FreeCEN but to no avail.

There are quite a few Maslens in Marden on Hugh Wallis' site

I only looked at births and there's an Ann Maslen christened 11/10/1778, d of Gifford Maslen & Susanna along with a few others but you can check marriages too.

Have a check on the full IGI search on familysearch.org site if you haven't already.

Thanks H for that info.  Gotta say I have trawled Hugh Wallis' site and IGI and the Ann you mention is currently my favourite.  I suppose Hannah and Ann could be interchanged dependent on how good the clerk's hearing was.  What do you think?

I think it's probably a good bet. We've come across loads like it in registers and census records especially for Hannah/Ann/Anna/ Anne but the best of ours was Israel for Ezra - caused confusion for ages. 

I've hunted through Phillimores Wiltshire Vols 1-14 this morning but can't find a marriage for Gifford Maslen to Susannah anywhere.  I bought a few Wilts Parish transcripts for christenings and deaths but, unfortunately, haven't got a transcript for Marden registers.  Have you had a look whether Wilts FHS sells one?
