Hello Dolly,

Welcome to RootsChat.

I see from your message on RootsWeb at the end of May 2001 that "One of his children was born there John Nugent Jackson(1830)" and that "they were not of the Roman Catholic faith."

A Church of Ireland minister, the Reverend Edward Nangle, established a mission at Dugort in the nineteenth century so I'd imagine non Catholics were baptised there. www.achillcliff.com/history.html

Thanks Christopher & Sandra ,

Since I posted in 2001 ,I found 2 further children born to Thomas Jackson the Coastguard and 2 further children that had also died in the 1840S they are recorded on the coastguard website .

I visited Achill Island over 10 years ago .

Thanks
Louise.
