Lost ALDENS in Middx
« on: Thursday 01 April 04 23:58 BST (UK) »
Hi List
George Alden & Eleanor Tocock (b 1817 Eversley) were married 1837 in Reading, Searches so far have failed to trace their movements until they appear in Forest of Dean 1856 with there children,George,William,James,Henry,Alfred ,Thomas & Stephen. I am trying to find where they were between 1837-56 - has anyone any leads
please.

Unless I'm mistaken, Forest of Dean is Gloucestershire?

Gloucestershire lookup exchange is at http://freespace.virgin.net/isabel.easter/Glos.html
1851 census lookups are on offer. If the family can be found, the declared birthplaces of the children should help pin down where they were.

Hi Pauline
Thks for that - I was very much aware of the fact most of my research has been in the Forest of Dean. The problem has been in the years before they arrived there. I have births for Chiuldren in Bradfield,Berks and Theale,Berks but in the case of the Theale births there does not seem to be any birth certificates in existence. all of the staff pension records have there bith dates being Notorised by a Notary Public,Solicitor. As they all ended up working for GWR it is possible they moved around quite a bit and the direction is unknown. the 1851 census for Berk,Som,Wilts & Gloucs has no record so I'm casting my net further up and down the rail track to try and locate - hence the Middx posting.

So, are the Alden family in 1851 Abingdon unrelated?

Hi Pauline
I am not sure about the Abingdon Aldens - and have no details to confirm or deny this. But today I have rcvd another cert and I now know that in 1844 they were in Stroud,Gloucs up till now I didnt really believe that this contact was going to be one of mine- wrong spelling etc in index, but it certainly was - another £7 well spent !!
So we now go 1837 Reading,1844/5 Stroud,1848 Bradfield,1856 Westbury om Severn. Quite a lot of moving for that period I feel.
