Photo Restore
« on: Tuesday 04 March 08 23:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have been sent this picture which is possibly my Grandad but its difficult as it is very dark and I'm not 100% if it is WWI or WWII,  I am led to believe that he was in both wars - I'd really appreciate any help on this.

Many thanks

Julie

The cap badge looks pretty distinctive, if it's a mounted regiment it's most likely WW1.

Hi Marsden

If you post this on to the Armed Services - WW1 page, someone there will be able to identify the cap badge for you and tell you your grandad's regiment, and how to go about finding his service records.
Best wishes, Judy :-))

Hi,

Thanks so much everybody for doing this - I'm 99.9% sure it is him.  I put it against his wedding photograph and I'm almost certain now I've seen the lighter versions.

I'm going to post it on the WWI site just out of interest as in WWII he would have been in his 40's and he looks quite young - well certainly not 40.

Thanks again

Julie

To me, it looks similar to this one
THE 3RD. (KINGS OWN) HUSSARS (1920 - 1958)

Mmmmm,

You're right it does - very strange,  I was sure he was Prince of Wales Own - but I could be wrong.
