land deeds- kentucky

hi
anyone any idea if its possible to find old deeds for land  for period 1810-1853. did they have to be recorded somewhere legal or were they drawn up then just carried around with the owner with no other record made?
also who could have drawn up the deed? could anyone do it back then?
