Coll Family
« on: Wednesday 05 March 08 13:15 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any links to the Coll family.

My Colls come from Cloonlateive.

John Coll was born in 1830 in Cloonlateive.  His father was Patrick Coll.

John moved over to Liverpool where he settled.  He is my great grandfather.

Not much to go on, I know, but I hope there may be some bells ringing, somewhere out there.

Hello Ursula,

What denomination were your Coll ancestors?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Christopher, were you up late on Paddy's night?  ;)

The Colls were all Catholics, so yes, I think I need to rely on Church records.

One definite fact I have is that there were descendants in that area called Joe and Nellie Coll who were brother and sister and they lived in the St Mary's Hill area/road.  Cloonlateive is the area that my cousin remembers from his parents where the Colls came from.

And yes, here's hoping that the church records still exist.

Does this ring bells out there for anyone?
