Hi Elaine
              Welcome to rootschat
I would be surprised if we couldn't help so long as they are in Cheshire, can you give any further info IE the earliest census details you have even if its 1901, who when and where did he marry, do you have any details from a birth certificate ? or anything else that may give a clue as to his address, the main problem with the 1861 census is that there is in general no name index. So any help you can please.

Thank you for your reply.

George Stanley Reid was living at Stonehills Lane, Runcorn, Cheshire in the 1881 census, I can't find him in the 1871 census.

He was married (age 21) in Widnes in 1875 to Ann Jane Norman.

His profession is Stonemason and his father's (James) profession in 1875 was Labourer.

I have a birth certificate dated 8/7/1854 for 2 Colquitt terrace born to James Reid and Irvine Ried (Dow), but not convinced its mine.

Hope you can help

Hi Elaine
I have searched the whole of the Ellesmere area 1851 & 1861 for a James Reid plus all spelling variations and there isnt one on either census. Assuming that the 1881 census address that you quote is the correct family, I have found the following results that show George's father as Johnathon ?

Thank you Peter, not sure if correct or not, George/Ann's Marriage cert clearly says James.  Looks like I might have to do some more digging.

Thanks

Elaine

Hi Elaine

It is not unknown for mistakes to be made by registrars when entering marriage details, have you any witness names that we might be able to tie in maybe as relatives, does the certificate state whether father is deceased or not ? what is George's occupation and age on certificate, is there an address for the bride and groom? have you traced Ann's family to any particular area at all?
